Frequently Asked Questions
You will be able to pass the clinic course you are enrolled in for spring even if you did not complete the requirements, however you will need to make up the missed adjustments or exams during summer quarter. CHOP will be open during break as well and you can see any student, employee, or their family members in addition to outpatients during summer break, as always.
After you have scheduled the labs that you are able to, and adjusted any other courses to be able to fit the 3 two hour clinic lab sessions into your schedule, then if necessary you can contact Dr. Teri Stockwell at Teri.Stockwell@LIFE.edu. Please send her your academic schedule with the times you have tried to schedule for clinic.
Yes, if you can advise the patient of the times, you will be in clinic and they can schedule their visits during those times, then you can continue to see them for care. If they are unable to schedule during your scheduled clinic times, they will be scheduled during their clinicians’ hours and the interns who are scheduled during those times will help care for the patient. If necessary, please ask your clinician to assist you with communicating with the patient to ease their concerns.
Yes, the exposure and continuing practice is necessary for your learning experience. You will continue to be exposed to business success practices, patient education, appropriate coding and billing, technique application, diagnosis, effective goal setting for patients, history taking, examination practice, rehabilitation, x-ray technique/interpretation, etc., etc.
You will be able to begin patient encounters with the direction of your clinician. You do NOT need to follow your Clinic schedule for Break.
Yes, you are not required to fit your time in over the course of the week.
No. Schedule your two-hour blocks to fit into your schedule. If you have difficulty scheduling, please send your class schedule to Dr. Stockwell with proposed alternatives to the two-hour block.
It is currently working effectively. Some insurance companies have not yet added us to their network so patients with that insurance may need to pay; however, they can submit a super-bill to their provider to request reimbursement. Remember, insurance will only be billed for active care. If a patient is not under active care, they will be expected to pay.
We offer a time-of- services discount of 25%. Medicare patients pay the special Medicare rate and can also receive a time-of-service discount. And we will have Wellness plans for those paying cash.
The IQA will be used to both document and to provide meaningful assessment of specific aspects of each encounter. In this way, every encounter will be tracked. For an encounter to count toward the clinic requirements, the encounter must be graded at a level of 3 or better.
First, patients “belong” to the doctor of record. Until you have completed your education, passed each of your board exams and have been granted a license, by law you may only provide care for a patient under the direction and supervision of the licensed doctors in the clinics or in your PEAK office. We will be honing that level of direction and supervision in our clinics into our Mentorship Model. Qualified and enthusiastic clinicians will direct care, using a watch, do, teach method. You will experience these encounters with the doctors in your units and with covering the unit in a doctor’s absence.
Patients will schedule their own appointments, either by phone or through the Patient Portal, which will be available at the next update of NextGen. Interns may schedule their immediate family-member patients. Beginning this summer, we will have a separate Call Center to ensure that calls and messages are addressed.
