Dr. Schar grew up on a farm in Wayne County, Ohio. Prior to matriculation at Life College in 1983, Dr. Schar was a research assistant in the Agronomy Department at the Ohio State University Agricultural Research and Development Center and in a Drosophila genetics lab in the Biology Department at the College of Wooster, both in Wooster, Ohio.

During his tenure at Life University, Dr. Schar first taught in the Chiropractic Technician Program from 1987-1998, and from 1998-2002, he was a faculty clinician in the Outpatient Clinic at Roswell Street. From 2002 to the present, he has been a faculty member in the Clinical Sciences Division teaching the lecture for Pubh 4747 Ob/Gyn/Proct Clinical Diagnosis and  Diag 3745 Genitourinary Clinical Diagnosis. He also currently assists with the laboratories for Special Senses Diagnosis, Visceral Diagnosis and Clinical Laboratory Studies.

Dr. Schar taught the first Torque Release Technique class offered at a chiropractic college in North America, beginning in Summer 2012 and continuing to the present. Dr. Schar researches genuine cancer therapies, especially for breast and prostate cancers. He has one son, Dr. Nicholas Schar, who practices Chiropractic in Brandon, Florida.
