Black History Month
Life U Honors
Black History Month
Dear Life University Community,
As we enter the month of February, we come together to honor and celebrate Black History Month—a time to recognize the heritage, achievements, and contributions of Black Americans throughout history. This month let’s do more than observe names and dates. Let’s explore the richness of Black narratives, acknowledge the burdens lifted, and celebrate the hope that shines. Let’s lift Black voices, learn from ancestral wisdom, and celebrate our shared achievements.
In the spirit of fostering understanding and unity, Life University has prepared a series of events to commemorate Black History Month, offering opportunities to engage, learn, and connect:
- Webinar Panel Discussion: Black Resilience & Self-Care: Join us for an insightful conversation on navigating challenges, promoting mental well-being, and cultivating an anti-racist lens.
- Black History Lecture: America’s Painful Past of Lynching: Remember the dark chapters of history while exploring the fight for racial justice and its ongoing journey.
- Unity Celebration Reception: Connect with fellow members of our campus community, enjoy cultural performances, and celebrate the unifying spirit of Black History Month.
- Black History Month Gala: Culminate the month with a festive evening honoring Black excellence and recognizing outstanding contributions within our community.
Let us use this month as a catalyst for deepening our understanding, promoting social justice, and embodying the principles of Lasting Purpose. Your participation in these events contributes to our shared commitment to create an inclusive and compassionate community.
Wishing you a meaningful and reflective Black History Month.
Sincerely,
Harrison Davis, Jr., Ph.D.

Lecture
February 21
In the complex tapestry of American history, Black communities have consistently navigated experiences of racial violence, whether directly or through the trauma passed down across generations.
Dr. Snowden’s talk delves into the harrowing psychology of lynching, a brutal form of terrorism that flourished within a democratic society. Through this lens, we will explore the disturbing questions: How did such an atrocity find acceptance? What factors shaped the minds of those who perpetrated and condoned it? And most importantly, how does this legacy of terror continue to reverberate in the political, economic and social fabric of our nation today, impacting all Americans?
